OLD FRIENDS

Peter Maude

Peter Maude is from Middlesbrough, and was Friends' bass player from 1987 to 1988.

After leaving the band he formed Joe Public in 1989 with friends from sixth-form college, doing Clash covers and writing a few hip-hop tracks.

He studied economics and accounting at Newcastle University, graduating in 1992, applied for a job as HMV store manager but wasn't successful.

He joined the band Jonestown in summer 1992, playing rock music in and around the North East. Jonestown did one studio album on their own label which was sold at gigs.

He started working for KPMG in Darlington in September 1992. Six weeks later he walked in Newcastle Megastore and asked them for a job as KPMG was so dull.

In 1994 he left Jonestown, KPMG, and Middlesbrough to move to London to work for the retail arm of the Virgin Group as an accountant. Jonestown have survived but not prospered without him, and are now a Bryan Adams tribute band called Vancouver, who are apparently 'doing alright'.

In 1995 he started doing dance demos at home and sent one off to Virgin Records. In spite of the connection he wasn't immediately signed to the label.

In 1998 he joined Dead Guest Stars on bass, but this was put on hold when the singer moved abroad and Peter went travelling in 2000.

Between 1995 and 2000 he recorded numerous dance tracks under the name of Southbeach, and in August 2001 the circle was completed when he re-signed to Summerhouse on a four-single and album deal.

Peter hit 30 at Christmas 2001. He's still a big Pet Shop Boys fan (always was), and into dance music.
