Hotel de Paris is the first single from the prolific writer/producer/DJ/bass player Pete Maude, a.k.a. Southbeach, and features a range of dance music styles linked by a highly melodic sensibility and strikingly distinctive rhythmic patterns. The title track Hotel de Paris (128 bpm) is a Progressive Trance number driven by heavy bass and locked into a naggingly insistent melodic riff. The track was used extensively over the summer in an advertising campaign on Kiss FM. Distorts (129 bpm) is a House/Breakbeat track featuring squelchy 303 lines, building up, as the title suggests, to distortion. Transition (132 bpm) is a melodic Trance/House track featuring a piano riff, and overdubbed with a live bass line. Enjoy (125 bpm) is the most overtly commercial track of the set, a Pop/House/Trance number featuring the live vocal of a female soap star, Faithless-type synth stabs, and sweeping, swooning strings. The four tracks are a massively impressive debut from an exciting and original new artist. Listen to Hotel De Paris clip |
